To mark the Estonian Presidency of the EU, the Estonian Semester Committee at the JRC in Ispra is organising a photo exhibition “Wood in Estonia” that will be displayed in the Ispra cafeteria from 20 November to 7 December 2017.In connection with this, the JRC's Directorate for Sustainable Resources (Dir. D) and its Bioeconomy project are organising a one-day scientific workshop on different aspects of the Forest Bioeconomy. The purpose of the workshop is to:
• present current trends and developments in the forest bioeconomy sector,
• highlight research and innovation needs, and
• identify areas of future research collaboration.
Topics include research on new wood-based products, the role of forests and the forest industry in energy transition, the ecosystem services provided by forests and how to find a balance between protecting biodiversity and modernising forest management.
