Who Saw It Last, and Where? Materials Identification and Tracking for Efficient Production and Intralogistics

Activity: Talk or presentation typesConference presentation

Description

Effective delivery of make-to-order (MTO) products relies on information about the status of materials and other assets within a complex manufacturing environment. This necessitates a traceability system that identifies assets, automatically captures their movements or associated events, and records and shares the data with all relevant parties. This study employs the Global Standard One (GS1) and examines technological solutions suitable for identifying materials and tracking their flow in MTO production. The study illustrates the use of several promising technologies − 2D barcodes, Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) and Ultra-Wide Band (UWB) − through case examples. Future research directions are suggested both for academics and industrial practitioners.
