Translocal Pottery

Description

Pottery practices typically involve the use of local clay. This aspect provides tangible information about places and contexts, revealing the mutual implication of social activities and material environments in the production of locality. A focus on the local, however, curtails the global, diverse, and multiply situated realities where our sociomaterial relationships exist today. Against this backdrop, Translocal Pottery interrogates traditional notions of locality by prototyping a pot-making practice across a plural array of social, material, and spatiotemporal landscapes. The project offers a virtual platform for creative work, harnessing the power of digitalization to generate new design knowledge through geographically distributed acts of making.
