Description
What does it mean to be a fashion designer in the 21st century? What role can fashion designers play in the contemporary society beyond the industry? These can be considered as somewhat basic questions for important creative practices, such as fashion design. However, surprisingly, the subject of fashion design is underexplored, significantly impacted by ambiguity and complexity that the term ‘fashion’ brings. With the fluid involvement to both the material production of clothes and the immaterial production of fashion, fashion design and its profession can make distinctive contributions compared to other creatives through their unique fashion design thinking. Critically interweaving discussions from research fields of design and fashion, in this lecture, Dr Namkyu Chun will talk about how we can reimagine the social role of fashion design(ers) and their contribution to placemaking.Period | 13 Feb 2023 |
