Modern edge-cloud software systems are increasingly developed and delivered through a complex supply chain that will operate across the highly distributed IoT–edge–cloud continuum. Although security engineering has progressed in automation and vulnerability detection, it remains largely reactive and weakly connected to continuous assurance, certification, and human trust from the left-to-the-right along the supply chain. We will discuss main principles, processes and mechanisms in using AI and Digital Twins to enable the security-based assurance for such software systems that is currently carried out by the SECASSURED project.
