    Description

In this panel, we discussed the experiences of creating games with indigenous themes in Finland. Sami are the only indigenous people of the Europe, yet there is very little games either on Sami language or discussing the life and the experiences of Sami people. Forgotten histories, cultural misunderstandings, political debates, ethnostress and lack of knowledge affect the landscape of Sami game development. The panelists have different experiences on tackling the Sami themes through games: Red Stage Entertainment is developing a sami inspired adventure game Skábma – Polar Night, Zaibatsu Interactive is working on a game adaptation of a Sami poet Pedar Jalvi, Kapu Toys’ has created a game for kids is about reindeer herding and Outi Laiti & Annakaisa Kultima run a game jam on Sami topics in February 2018.
