Description
Ihde's (1990) analysis of otherness relationship, one of the phenomenological modes of technological mediation, exists in our current relationships with digital musical instruments (DMIs) in which autonomous and intelligent behaviours are applied to music generation with machine learning and artificial intelligence (AI) tools. In this talk I will introduce our current research on the computational features with automatic response-behaviour that turns DMI into an entity, generating relevant musical actions to be performed, monitoring the music space and performing musical events that would challenge the musical discourse. I argue that these advanced intelligence features on the musical responses bring in independent decision-making technology into our relationship with musical instruments. In particular I will talk about our artistic research projects "InSpace with Otherness: Interactive Music for a Machine Learning Synthesiser" and NOISA: Network of Intelligent Sonic Agents". These projects provide alterity relations with a sense of interacting with "something other than me", contributing in positive ways to the co-created arts with machine learning and AI.Period | 8 Sept 2019 |
