Description
I was invited to give a lecture on Digital Musical Interactions -Title: Digital Musical Interactions
Abstract:
Digitalisation has enabled new possibilities of utilising new interfaces for musical expression. It also opens up new possibilities for new music practices to emerge, which can be viewed through surrounding technological factors. Despite technological advances, what makes our relationship with music particularly interesting is that it is inherently a socio-cultural activity, supporting a diverse range of interactions and social or individual goals. The lecture on Digital Musical Interactions will discuss the research on articulating a framework to better understand the principles of emerging technologies and cultural constraints behind digital musical interactions, specifically how they appropriate and give meaning to the evolving nature of the relations among a web of actors; performer, musician, composer, instrument, audience, instrument designer, environment. This framework will help us to describe how culturally contextualised experience and technological aspects set conditions for us, for the interactions we develop and for the musical experience we create.
