Description

Cities are facing a number of challenges related to the implementation of national and local sustainability strategies. Due to increasing urban population size and the consequent pressure for urban development, there is a need to ensure the provision of ecosystem services necessary for urban sustainability, resilience, public health and well-being.
The potential of ecosystem services, green infrastructure and nature-based solutions (NBS) and the need of improving the use of the increasing amount of urban data in sustainable urban planning has been widely acknowledged among both academics and practitioners. In spite of this, there is a gap between research and actual planning.
The SOLSUS project aims to address this challenge by using an evidence-based approach and the possibilities given by computational urban modeling to show the potential of advanced integrative planning and define new tools for the effective combination of urban nature and urban data through the application of NBS.
