Bio-based activated carbon from locally available biomass: comparison of carbon activation methods on water treatment performance

Activity: Talk or presentation typesConference presentation

Description

The production of bio-based activated carbon (BAC) is justified by substitution for fossil-originated conventional AC with locally available biomass as a raw material. Apart from local availability and the renewable origin of raw material, it is possible to adjust BACs properties during production. We hypothesize that by controlling the pyrolysis temperature and activation method, it is possible to create specific carbons for improved removal of target pollutants. In this research, we showed how BAC's properties can be changed by different activation methods.
