Description

Session: Structures as Architecture 01
at the 13th Annual Symposium of Architectural Research 2021: Diversity
21-22 October 2021 at Aalto University, Espoo, Finland

The session on “Structures as Architecture” explores the potential of structures as means of architectural expression and as the potential driver of the architectural design process in more detail. The session triggers an understanding of structure as modulator of diverse information, including architectural and structural geometry, digital fabrication, tectonics, design for disassembly, innovative use of material, and sustainability amongst others. So, the meaning, importance and the design of structures will be shifted from the performative-only to a new level of complexity at the intersection the spatial, the technical and the material.
